Walchsee is located right on the shore of the lake at an altitude of 668 m. The sunny resort is situated in the centre of a picturesque landscape at the foot of the Zahmen Kaiser. Winter hikers and cross-country skiers can take off from the Walchsee on vast tours, curling fans and ice skaters will thoroughly enjoy the lakes that have frozen over and adventurers will get their money's worth with an extensive snowshoe hike! Not only children's pulses will be racing at a tobogganing party at the local tobogganing run. Skiers can get to the Zahmer Kaiser lifts in a matter of minutes, and the lower mountain pastures can be reached by ski bus.

Cross-country skiing in the holiday region of Kaiserwinkl is on the rise! The region around the Unterberghorn (1,700 m) and Zahmen Kaiser (1,200 m) mountains is one of the most favoured cross-country skiing areas in Austria, and is on a winning streak with its approx. 150 kilometres of track. This region has as much space for avid cross-country skiers to let off steam as for beginners. There's something for everyone; from the sunny high mountain valley, from which you have a gorgeous view of the Wilden Kaiser massif, to the racing tracks. Two floodlit tracks await you in Kössen and Walchsee for a bit of evening fun. Highlight of the season is the all-yearly "Koasalauf" (Tyrolean for "Kaiserlauf" = "emporer's race") in February, a public race during which around 2,000 cross-country skiers hit the snow!
