The resort of Rauris, situated in the Rauris Valley at an altitude of 950 m, is one of the oldest settlements in the Alps. In the olden days, it was gold mining that enticed visitors to this idyllic village in the Salzburger Land, as gold panning was the main source of income for the inhabitants here at the end of the twenties. Nowadays, this tranquil resort has become ever popular with tourists, yet it has not lost its roots. The Hochalm gondola and the Kreuzboden gondola enable easy access to the Rauris' ski area, which is particularly suitable for families and those looking for peace and quiet. After a day on the piste, you can while away your time either by taking part in one of the many sports activities offered here or in a sociable lodge evening. Definitely worthwhile is a snow-shoe tour through the "Rauris virgin forest".
