The traffic-free winter sports resort Flaine lies at approx. 1,600 m in the Haute Savoie, around 70 km south-east of Geneva. The resort was conceptualised in the 60s by architect Marcel Breuer, and was meant to be integrated into, rather than destroy, the surrounding mountain landscape. The result is three stations at various heights, which are joined by footpaths, lifts and a shuttle service. The village offers direct access to Flaine's ski area, which boasts more than 140 km of fun on the pistes. Flaine also has a lot more to offer - action lovers can let loose in a car or go-kart on the ice course, or explore the mountain world at a bird's eye view whilst paragliding or during a helicopter flight.
