Kaltenbach, together with Ried and Stumm, is positioned in the heart of the Ziller Valley. Kaltenbach is the largest and best known among these three resorts. Thanks to the ring road, thorough-traffic doesn't exist here. The smaller and quieter village of Ried is right on the border of Kaltenbach. Stumm, on the opposite side of the valley, is approx. 1.5 km from the cable car and offers a special flair with its beautiful village square. All three districts have a modern tourist infrastructure with, among other amenities, indoor pools and various recreational attractions. Numerous restaurants offer regional specialities like traditional "Kasspatzen" pasta with cheese, home-made apple strudel, and "Kaiserschmarrn," sugared pancakes with raisins.
